Louisville is unique in that it is under the Colorado Home Rule Municipality. These municipalities are self governing and granted the right to choose whether they are a town or a city under the Constitution of the State of Colorado. Home to roughly 20,000 residents and located in Boulder County, Louisville is 8.5 square miles in size and has 12 schools. The population density of Louisville is 2,150 people per square mile, which is low by national and regional standards. Westminster is one of the larger cities in Colorado with a population of 100,940. In this Westerminster is known to be one of the largest hubs in the state. Louisville and Westminster are well regarded cities both for quality of life and to raise a family. In 2005, the city of Louisville was named #5 on the top 100 best places to live by Money Magazine. In 2006, the book "Best Places to Raise Your Family: The Top 100 Affordable Communities in the U.S." named Louisville the #1 place to raise a family in the United States. In 2007, Money Magazine moved Westminster to their top 100 list. With a median household income of $81,500, Louisville is comparatively high in Income and quality of life compared to surrounding areas. The medium household income for Westminster is $72,551. Louisville's median income is more than $20,000 higher then the median for all of Colorado. Louisville is renowned for combining its homey, rustic atmosphere with modern improvements. The industry of Louisville is heavily tech-centered and though the streets may retain a nostalgic feel, the technology industry is cutting edge.
Due to an abundance of excellent schooling options, parents often seek out Louisville as a place to raise their families. The median age is 36 years old and the population is split slightly in favor of females in the gender ratio. The median home price for Louisville is $322,812, but homes are available from the $200,000 range. It is high up compared to most areas in the United States, with an altitude of 5,335 feet. The medium home price for Westminster is $220,000. Outdoor life is prevalent in Louisville and Westminster which includes skiing, hiking and biking are all popular activities. Louisville has a 26 mile bike/walking trail that is utilized heavily by its residents during all seasons. Other activities include public concerts, craft fairs and other communal endeavors. Louisville's Mayor is Chuck Sisk, a Colorado lawyer who has been part of the city government since 1991 as a Councilman and later a mayor. He is well liked and without controversy as Mayor.
Although a larger city, Westminster still has a lot of outdoor activities. The city is proud of their "Big Dry Creek Trail" which extends 10 miles from the eastern boundary of the city to Standley Lake. Other trails, available for jogging, biking, wildlife viewing and enjoying the outdoors, have been constructed along the Farmers' High Line Canal, Walnut Creek and Little Dry Creek. Other acticities include 30 movie theaters, 81 public golf courses, and 11 ski resorts within the area. Louisville takes the genuine feel of Small Town, America and combines it with strong industry and heavy modernization to create an excellent place to live for any family. While Westminster has the allure of a larger city that has competitive housing prices and an abundance of jobs. |
